Yeah. It's been out for a while now, but I've been waiting for the Tech Report review of the thing because they actually do a half-decent job (including measuring frame times as well as rates, which give an indication of if, and how much microstutter will impact performance).

Anyway. It's fast. Faster than the GTX580 by 5-25%, in most cases. Unlike the rest of the Radeons based on the VLIW4/5 architecture, this thing (GCN) actually does tesselation and GPGPU incredibly well.

There's some other fancies like ZeroCore (fuck yes, 3W idle power :d) and power consumption is down as well. It draws less power than a 6970 even though it's been beefed up quite a bit more.

I guess here's the graphs that count most for you guys:

(By the way, 99th percentile frame time is how long each frame stays on screen for. The last 1% are excluded)

And here's the link to the full review.

The card goes on sale in 6 days, on the 9th of January.

So, who's upgrading? :p

I just won the 6950 last year so I guess I won't be upgrading until:

1) I get a job
2) I upgrade away from this budget build which horrifically bottlenecks any GPU, isn't running every program and OS on the one GREEN hard drive and lacks DDR3 and SATAIII ports...

On topic though, that's a hell of a card from AMD! If I ever decide to buy one though, I'll probably wait for 3rd party cooling as by then it'll be cheaper and save the hassle of swapping cooling because I'm a lazy bastard.

After seeing the prices for SB-E, I won't be upgrading til Ivy so I'm gonna wait and see what GPUs come out in April. Hopefully I'll be getting my system all at once with watercooling so just saving up still until then. Also because I just forked out a tonne of money to pay for the community stuff, I'm back to sub $1000 in the bank.

Looks like a good competitor for Nvidia, AMD vs Nvidia is definately way closer then AMD vs Intel. Then need to come up with something way better on the CPU side.
