I almost hate to give a war movie 5/5, but this one is incredible. Perfectly shot, perfectly acted, with a story unique to the setting. Actually, It's not 'perfectly shot' - It's better than perfect, particularily those rotation shots, they sent shivers down my spine.
It takes a lot for a movie to touch me emotionally, and this one, with it's bittersweet moments throughout, and it's charismatic characters, did a fine job of it.
The Front Line is told mostly from the South Korean side, but by no means is it ever propagandist. The main theme is that of how war itsself is the enemy, and not either of the conflicting parties. The action scenes aren't the star here, though they are fantastically executed, it's the other stuff going on that really made this movie unique in my eyes.
I don't just go handing out my 5/5's.. 20 out of over 540 movies carry this prestigious rating in my flixster account - 3.6% of all the movies I've rated there. I checked my stats lol.
The only other movie I would go so far as to recommend from my recent viewings is Puss in Boots. 4/5 from me.
