Big part of HL3 is the creepiness of venturing through alien infested areas on foot and alone. I think it's hard to make an atmospheric game while also having another person there with you chatting on the mic. What would be OK is if there's one SP portion of the game that continues the main story and all, and a second Coop/MP mode that tells a spin-off story or something.
