The HD 7970 is the first released card to boast the 28nm process and comprises of 4.31 billion transistors. The new "Southern Islands" architecture was redesigned from ground up and is not merely a revision of the HD 6000 series. The card also brings along PCI Express 3.0, however it's not exactly the biggest selling point since most software don't even saturate the PCI-E 2.0 slots.
The card is 10.5" long by 4.5" tall which makes the PCB the same size as the 6970.
It's supposably going to be around $550 MSRP
